How To Maximize Social Security Benefits

If you are looking to maximize social security benefits, you may be surprised to learn that the longer you wait the better off you’ll be. If you want to maximize your benefits and you delay until age 70.5, you can realize an increase in benefits of up to 25 percent per year! In addition, if you’ve been married ten or more years and your spouse dies, you will be eligible for your spouse’s higher social security benefits. The lifetime value of Social Security is far greater than most people realize.

Under current formulas, a person who starts out receiving the maximum monthly social security benefit of $2513 in 2013 will receive a total of:

$380,00 if they live another 10 years,

$874,000 if they live 20 years,

and more than 1.4 million if they live 30 years!
